A message will soon appear at the top of the stream in both applications
Facebook will add messages to the news feed and Instagram feed to encourage people to wear face masks, the company said on Thursday. A warning is displayed at the top of the Facebook news feeds, redirecting users to the COVID-19 information center and providing links to disease control and prevention centers for more information. Instagram will contain a similar prompt with CDC links. facebook
The company says the move is a response to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the United States. The United States set a daily record on Wednesday, adding 50,000 new cases, as many states began in June to rethink their plans to reopen. As of Thursday, the United States had more than 2.7 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 128,000 people had died. instagram
How do you deal with people who refuse to wear a mask in this crisis?
The current CDC recommendation stipulates that people wear masks in public spaces to protect others from possible infections. Masks reduce the transmission of droplets of breath that can spread the virus.
Facebook had trouble curbing misinformation about corona viruses on its platforms during the pandemic. The company added new features to try to stop floods of bad information, including a warning, to notify people who may have been posting incorrect information.
Mask indicators will appear later on Instagram and Facebook today, the company said.
