Well, I will be honest with you, I saw the news about Elden Ring Nightreign network test, at once I looked at it and examined whether PC was mentioned. On a down note, it strangely was, and that was a little painful, too.
Table of Contents
Network Test: Console Only (And Sort of a Mess).
No, the Nightreign network test of Elder Ring was not present in the PC version. Closed network test The closed network test was conducted between February 14-17, 2025, on the PS5 and Xbox Series X S consoles only. Bandai Namco has made this crystal clear not to have Steam, no PC early access.
The twist to this however is the fact that even the console players who made it in had to endure a nightmare. The initial session was marred by serious server stability issues, with majority of the people not able to log in, or having frequent disconnection issues.
One of the sick testers summed it up appropriately, saying that this limited test was to be able to test the stability of the connection and not whether we can or can not connect.
Thus PC players were left behind but console people could not play at all. The servers failed to a point where FromSoftware indicated that they were doing a follow up network testing to compensate.
What PC Gamers Received in Its Place: The Complete Launch.
Here’s where it gets better. The complete game was released in PC through steam on May 30, 2025, on both PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox one and Xbox Series X S.
And honestly? PC got the better deal. Although network test was a three hour restricted window of broken servers the complete release of PC version can support the offline play and play alone, and solo players were considered to be the focus since the beginning of its creation.
PC System Requirements
This is what you will require ahead of leaping in:
- Minimum specs:
- Windows 10
- Intel Core i5-10600 / AMD Ryzen 5 5500
- 12 GB RAM
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB / AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB.
- 30 GB storage
Recommended specs:
- Windows 11
- Intel Core i5-11500 / AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- 16 GB RAM
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB.
Pretty reasonable, right? My GTX 1060 will be the minimum, but I would suggest stepping up a notch higher in the case of smooth performance.
What Made the Network Test Exclusion Frustrating.
I understand why FromSoftware prohibited the test, they wanted to be in control. So herein lays the reason why this rubbed PC players the wrong way:
To begin with, the PC gamers were not given a chance to trial the game prior to launching hence frustration in the community. What we are discussing is a roguelike co-op game in which there would be a three-player team that battled through three data in-game days and nights with increasingly difficult foes.
Second, there are some PC-specific peculiarities in the game that might have been identified during the previous stage. It has no native ultrawide support to support as it was based on the same engine as Armored Core 6, which supported ultrawide. And, not the support of refresh rates more than 60 FPS at the time of launch.
That is precisely the type of problems a PC network stress test would have revealed.
The Silver Lining: A Post Launch Enhancements.
Since May 30, FromSoftware has not been sitting down. There were many changes in September of 2025 as patch 1.02.2 introduced such changes as Nights tide caused more damage, spawning positions were adjusted and Greataxes and Great Hammers were made capable of staggering.
Even better? Version 1.02 has Duo Expeditions, which enabled two players to play on a co-op basis, in addition to the usual three-player mode. This was out of the community feedback that indicated two-players to play felt manageable as opposed to the chaotic three-player teams.
And content is in store to come. The Forsaken Hollows DLC releases on December 4, 2025, on PC and any other platform, introducing new bosses, and new places to traverse.
Final Thoughts
Then is Nightreign network test of Elden Ring on PC? No. But are PC players finally screwed? Also no.
Of course we skipped the broken network test with its errors on logging in and disconnections. However, we received an improved version that had solo play support, periodic updates, and future DLC.
The chaos of network testing actually confirmed the basic problems required to be rectified prior to its initiation. The console players who were unable to log in? They tested the servers load testing style to ensure that we did not have that mess the first day in operation.
Just in case you are on PC and questioning whether to get Nightreign at the moment- go ahead. The game is in a solid state, the servers are not going off, and you are experiencing everything without all the drama of the early access. Only it is recommended that you do not expect Ultrawide support, as apparently Fromsoftware forgot that PCs monitors come in various sizes.
But, you know, at least we are able to log in and play.
