I have been told to spend far too much time on Sunday afternoons clicking around design tools, and when I heard that Canva’s Magic Studio beeped on the list of the Best Inventions of this year in the review of Time, he could no longer but explore it.
This is what I discovered–and what is more to the point, how you can actually use these AI tools without going through the credit card or creating weird-looking designs.
Table of Contents
What You’re Actually Getting
The Magic Studio is not a single feature, but rather 25+ AI features in the platform of Canva. There are some free ones and those, which require a Pro. I will take you through them, the ones that will in fact save you time, beginner ones.
Magic Media: Reinvent Words into Pictures (and Videos).
This is the place where the majority of them begin and frankly, it is quite entertaining. You enter whatever you desire to view and herein picture created.
How to use it:
- Click in the your sidebar on the left, Apps, scroll down to Magic Media.
- Type your description. Be specific. Do not simply say coffee shop, but it would be better to say the cozy coffee shop with vegetation, warm light, morning atmosphere.
- Select the way you want to be: simple, artistic or detailed.
- Hit generate
The catch? It does not do well with photorealistic stuff. I attempted to produce a professional headshot and… the eyes were not on it. Not people photography, it is conceptual images.
Free account tip: You have a limited number of credits to use throughout life, so that you should not use it re-creating the same prompt. Close it, and make the adjustment in the editor of Canva.
Magic Edit: Hollywood editing in Ferris wheels: Nikko!
This one surprised me. You post any picture, touch up, what you desire to change, and explain the substitution. It is similar to the generative fill of Photoshop, but less complicated.
How to use it:
- Upload your photo
- Click “Edit photo” – Magic Edit
- Oil paint on the part you wish to paint (whatever, background, an object, etc.).
- Alternative to will be: wooden desk or blue sky or eliminate this completely.
- Generate and watch it happen
I then used it to replace an untidy backdrop of a product image with an untinted white background. Took 30 seconds. In another application, it would have taken me 20 minutes.
Magic Eraser: Erase Things Before They Ever Existed.
You have to know when someone passes by and is photobombing your photo? Or some power line wrecken up your landscape? Magic Eraser handles it.

How to use it:
- Open your image in Canva
- Click Magic Eraser
- Click Edit photo – Magic Eraser.
- Brush over what you want gone
- It propagandizes the background on its own.
Heads up: This is a Pro feature. However when you have to clean up photos on a regular basis, it will be paid in no time.
Magic Write: AI Titles and Replication-copying.
I am not going to lie I was despicious. But Magic Write is even handy with first drafts.
How to use it:
- Click on the magic menu by typing any text box /.
- Select “Write with AI”
- Request what is required: Instagram text to promote a coffee shop, non-scholarly, or email subject matter to sell.
- It spits out options. Get one, alter it to sound like you.
Reality check: Do not accept results at face value. It’s generic. But it isn’t as bad as sittin and looking at a blank page when you are at a loss.
Magic Design: Autopilot Templates.
The given tool produces complete design templates using a mere description. It’s wild.
How to use it:
- Begin an additional design ( Instagram post, presentation, anything)
- Explain your requirements: “minimalist, pastel-colored modern skincare brand Instagram post.
- It comes up with various template options.
- Slug Ancient Drop customize your real content.
I was tried on a fake brand launch and received three good ones in less than a minute. I would have normally had to go through hundreds of templates manually.
Magic Resize: A Single Design, Multiple Platforms.
You made an Instagram post. Now you require it in LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest and your blog. This is done in a single click by Magic Resize.
How to use it:
- Finish your design
- Click “Resize” at the top
- Check the formats you need
- Hit “Copy & Resize”
- It generates platforms automatically.
This in itself is justification to the Pro subscription in the event of posting on various channels.
The Real Strategy that works.
Here is the way I can use Canva Magic Studio and not spend credits and get frustrated:
- Enter with Magic Design: Get a base template.
- Use realistic photographs: Do not use a Magic Media to create pieces of art, use an actual photo unless you must do conceptual.
- Fix with Magic Edit: It requires Magic Edit to adjust certain points especially when they are wrong.
- Clean up with Magic Eraser: Clean up distractions in your photos.
- International Hitches: When one design is complete, do everything with Magic Resize.
The biggest mistake? Attempts to produce flawless pictures in the first place. The AI isn’t there yet. It is either use it to do what you would otherwise do manually, which is editing, resizing, cleaning up a background etc.
What You Should Know Before You Start.
Canva Pro (Magic Eraser, Magic Animate, Magic Expand) is required with the majority of powerful features. The free edition provides Magic Media unlimited credits and Magic Edit. Get free, just in case you are trying it. Pro will break even at the cost of saved time in case you produce every week.
And another thing-be specific in your encouragements. The more specific you make the AI the more you are going to be near what you actually want. A basic blue is obtained by the color blue. Something useful you can get is “Gradient blue background, light to dark, professional.
FAQs
Can I use Magic Studio images for my business or client work?
Yep. The images that you create using Magic Media belong to you to be used in commerce. Please, do not attempt to come up with logos or pictures of a pre-existing brands or actual individuals, it is contrary to their conditions. Short of original ideas and you are okay.
How many times can I regenerate an image before I run out of credits?
Free members receive a limited lifetime credits (which is typically sufficient to make 5-10 Magic Media generations). The pro users receive periodically credited monthly, which is usually sufficient to generate 20-50 generations, depending on your activations.
The precise figures are not that transparent, and therefore, check your credit indicator. My advice? Get your hasty once right the first time rather than creating forever.
