I spent hours too long trying to play around with the relic system on Elden Ring, Nightreign, before I could figure how to make it work. I used to believe it was all about the gathering of the most unusual relics but that was all. It happens that I was entirely mistaken.
This is what I have discovered after several dozens of failed attempts and, at last, breaking the code.
Table of Contents
Why Relics are Normally Useful.
Here we have the thing with relics – they have nothing in common with the charms of base Elden Ring. All these build up in you between workouts, and this translates to you building real long term strength.
It has three levels: Delicate (one bonus), Polished (two bonuses) and Grand (three bonuses). Yeah, Gran, only, here is the thing, a mediocre Grand relic will not match a Polished one that is perfectly synchronized to build with.
I had a bad experience with this when I continued chasing Grand relics that did not suit my play style. Wasted so much time.
Color Coding Is Everything
The relics come in color, Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow. The vessel of your character decides on the slots you receive. At the beginning of my work at Wylder, I had two red slots and a blue one. Wasn’t able to arm that green corrupted thing.
The fix? Full Questions of David Remembrance. You will gain access to white (universal) slots of Chalices. The best one would be Guardian Chalice, two colored slots and one white slot that accepts anything.
This was different with me. Now I was able to test builds without the cultivation of particular colors.
The Builds That Actually Work
I tested each of the classes, and I found the following to be the best:
For Wylder (Fire Damage Focus):
Stack fire-related effects. I use starting armament deals fire damage and attack power up against frostbite-infested enemy. It sounds juxtaposing to combine fire and frost, yet the damage boost is insane in case of the first procing of frostbite.
For Guardian (Tank Build):
Damage to HP can be repaired–and not justifiably. Combine it with “Skill cooldown reduction” and you are virtually invincible. Whenever you are struck do it in five-second intervals and see your health restored.
For Recluse (Magic Spam):
This makes you a magic turret with “Max FP with three Sacred Seals/Staves Equipped” and “Terra Magica on Skill activation” on. I am able to spam spells far longer than I ought to be able to.
Where to Get the Good Stuff
stay with time wastage trying to level blindly grinding random expeditions in case someone will get god-tier. Here’s what I do:
Slay Nightlord now, and you will get a certain relic. These are deterministic effects, no random number games. Knight of Wise and Knight of Beast are necessities to every build.
Full Remembrance Quests of your main character. The artifacts they have received here augment their special powers and are specific to that class.
Your friend is the Small Jar Bazaar. Roll random relics by use of Murk (currency of expeditions). Once you fight Tricephalos the shop doubles. I check it after every run.
The Category System No One Explains.
This was something which puzzled me weeks. There are 20 effect categories in relics. Two effects of the same category can not be stacked on the same relic–except in the case of Category 19 where one can stack three.
Why does this matter? I continued attempting to make relics with several HP upgrades and I wondered why they could not work. Most of the effects of HP happen to fall into the same category.
Category 19 is different. It can be stacked with three effects and that is why those relics make them feel even more powerful.
What to Avoid
Do not put accessories on relics on the whim of it. I would observe players running three random Grand relics that do not have synergy. That is a disgrace to two refined artifacts that do play well together.
Disregard hyper-specific effects unless you are building around them. “2 Intelligence” on a pure melee? Pass. Off with Sell it to Murk and dice.
And pray, refresh thy relics between executions. I also kept missing out on replacing mine then questioning myself as to why I continued to die to the same bosses.
My Current Setup
I am currently using Recluse with Post-Damage Healing, Stamina on Attack and Ultimate Art charge handed down by Evergaols. This combination allows me to play aggressively without having to drink out of flasks every ten seconds.
The stamina enhancement will ensure that I can evade more. The forgiveness helps me to survive when I make mistakes. And the Ultimate is quick enough, that I am able to use it once every two boss fights.
It is not the gaudiest construction, although it functions. That’s what matters.
The Real Meta
No, stop going after good luck dice. Target the fixed-effect items and fill the gaps with the Small Jar Bazaar acquisitions.
Luther your colors and your jine. Freeze -Freeze Chalices. The thing is to build around synergy or even not rarity.
That’s it. The entire system after cutting beneath the noise.
FAQs
Can I use the same relic on multiple characters?
Yeah, actually. Nightfarers also carry separate expeditions, which is why the same relic is acquired by all. This is massive towards acquiring good relics on your roster without necessarily farming duplicates.
Do relics reset after each expedition?
Nope. After equipping them it is permanent until you switch them off. You are not re-equipping at the end of each run which would be irritating.
How do I get more vessel slots?
Purchase Goblets in Small Jar Bazaar (100 Murk usable upon defeating Tricephalos). On the best slots, use full Remembrance Quests to unlock Chalices the slots of Chalices are universal whites–they provide slots of any color.
