Amazing Peru – Top 5 Places to See

Machu picchu elevation: The entire world is your playground, ripe with adventures and new frontiers to explore. We may have discovered our entire planet, but most of us have certainly not explored it. South America represents mystery, exotic forests, mystical cultures and vibrant sights, all of which will remain with you long after you leave. Peru can be considered its jewel, with an abundance of spots to mark your next destination. The sooner you start packing, the better!

1. Machu Picchu

No visit to Peru is complete without the astounding Machu Picchu. This ancient town built on a cliffside, riddled with temples, stairs, culture and antique buildings stood the test of time. From Spanish explorers to our modern-day ones, all believed and strived towards discovering the fabled city. Titled “Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu grips you from you arrive and long after you leave. 

Often the journey is equally valuable as the destination, and the trip towards Machu Picchu is a tale of its own. You can start hiking via the Inca Trail or take the train from Cusco, Ollantaytambo, or Urubamba to Aguas Calientes. Whatever your choices may be, traversing the road, and experiencing the lush jungles and Inka’s incredible history first-hand will leave you hungry for more. 2. The Sacred Valley

Incas’ farmlands and golden fields fed a nation for long then we can imagine. Sprawling and fertile fields stretch out towards the horizon, where even today local farmers continue the long tradition of agricultural practices. The centerpiece of Peru’s green haven is the small town of Pisac, where you can visit the local Sunday Market. 

Ripe with handmade crafts, souvenirs and trinkets, you can also dive right into the local cuisine.  Exotic flavours, spices and drinks, dating back from the Incas to this day, are made according to long traditions, and you will not only enjoy those meals and drinks but travel back in time. Pisac Ruins are also nearby and should not be ignored during your visit. Peru is filled with various heritage sites and Inca temples that may have aged into what we call ruins, but they are still monumental in size and importance. 

3. Arequipa – The jewel of Peru

Standing tall at more than 2000 meters altitude, the most beautiful city in the entire country has to be on your to-visit list. Made entirely from a form of volcanic rock, the sillar stone, this city has earned the nickname “White city.” When the sun is high, the structures shine brightly, emitting a pleasant colour. Standing at the foothills of giant snow-covered mountains the entire visage will leave you gazing for hours. 

While visiting, you can always opt to help with certified volunteer abroad, so you can give back to the community and connect with the locals. Peru has a long history of visitors, all of whom have left their mark on its history. When you wish to experience a foreign culture, the best way is to eat, drink and live like the locals do. And volunteering is combining the best of both worlds.

4. The Rainbow Mountain

As the name suggests, you will be able to see how all colours of the rainbow can look when spread across a mountain. The journey starts with a guided hiking tour, one that will easily last a day or two. During the which, you will go thru local villages along the road and track straight thru jungles. Mountain streams with water so pure it shines brightly against the Sun, mimicking the giant Rainbow Mountains, you will be able to taste the rainbow should you try the pristine mountain water. 

Local villages are welcoming towards tourists, and you can see plenty of domestic products, handmade crafts and meals. Each village along the way is a story in itself, but at the end of your long trip, you will stand in awe of Rainbow Mountain. Be sure to bring a camera with plenty of free space.

5. Perus Capitol of Lima

We’ve saved something different for last, as we’ve would like to offer something for everybody. Modern and bustling nightlife offers a different kind of enjoyment and tourist attraction. Vivid disco clubs in a town that never sleeps and is teeming with energy can serve as a great jumping point for adventure. Refiling your batteries inside a modern capital with traditional values is easy, and you can also visit various historical sites present. 

Pre-Columbian architecture, massive cathedrals and others are all there when you wish to take a breather and soak in the local culture. Or you can take a short trip to the Pacific coast and splash around in the ocean if the weather is right. Picking from high mountain tops to rugged jungles, mystical temples, and modern pleasures of technology, Lima embodies a perfect mix of everything you need for a good time.
