godfather of harlem: Epix has renewed Forest Whitaker’s Harlem Grandpa for a third season of 10 episodes.
This summer, filming began on the third season of the hit ABC drama in New York City.
The update follows a strong second season, which Epix considers its highest-grossing season yet. It broke single-day streaming records for any title on Epix’s digital platforms, according to Epix, and the season two finale was the network’s highest-grossing finale ever.
Created by Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein, Grandpa Harlem tells the inspiring story of Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), a crime boss who returns from an eleven-year prison in the early 1960s and discovers that the neighborhood he once ruled has become corrupt.
In Season 3, Bumpy Johnson continues his battle for control of Harlem with the other contenders for the throne, the Cuban Mafia from nearby Spanish Harlem, the Cuban Mob and Bumpy, his henchmen and his competitive Italian neighbors. . . Brutal Latin American killers and, finally, the CIA. Elder Harlem tells the story of the conflict between the underground and the civil rights movement during one of the most turbulent periods in American history.
