Lex Friedman (born August 15, 1986) is a Russian-American researcher, professor, and social media activist from Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is currently a research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

His father is Alexander Friedman, a professor at Drexel University. Friedman has Ukrainian and Jewish ancestry, as his father was Jewish and was born in Kiev, his mother was born and raised in Kharkiv, and his grandfather fought as an anti-fascist fighter in Ukraine during World War II.
He joined Google as a researcher in 2014. He worked there for a year. In 2015, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Research Fellow focused on human, autonomous vehicles, and deep learning. In 2006, he launched a YouTube channel.
