Guide on the use of BasedLabs AI: My Personal Experience

Last updated on November 18th, 2025 at 10:23 am

Listen, I will be frank with you, I initially did not believe BasedLabs AI to be anything more than another over-sell AI company. However, I am impressed after having spent a weekend trying it out. It is one of those sites, which do not make everything very complicated, and you can start playing without reading 50 pages of the manual.

This is what I learnt on how to use BasedLabs AI, starting with its setup, and your first project.

What Is BasedLabs AI Anyway?

BasedLabs AI is a platform that allows one to make images, videos, and audio by using various AI models. Imagine that it is your creative playground where you can make text prompts become visuals or change still images into short videos.

What caught my attention? It provides such features as AI image generation, video creation, face swapping, and image upscaling, among others. There is no necessity to work with various platforms.

Create the Account It Only Takes 30s.

The first thing you are going to need is an account. Go to BasedLabs.ai, create an account with Google or Discord account. No tedious forms or mail authentication email messages.

After taking up membership, you have 15 free credits which you can use to test the platform. It is just enough to make several pictures or a short video without spending anything.

The thing is here: not all outputs have the price less than the recommended 1-5 credits. It consumed 15 credits to converting just one image-to-video, though, so watch your credit.

How to Create AI Images

It is here that I spent the better part of my time. Go to the dashboard and click the Generate button and a text box with your prompt will appear.

The key here? Be specific. Type it out simply as a car as opposed to typing a futuristic neon-lit car in a Tokyo street at night, which is electric. The more information you input the better you produce.

You are free to select the style of art such as realistic, cartoon, or painting, and select your aspect ratio, square is chosen to fit in the social media, landscape in presentations, and anything that fits your purpose.

I was experimenting with some prompts, and the answers were sound, in my opinion. This is not ideal, but much better than I thought a free tool would be.

Creating Videos from Images

This feature blew my mind. Click on image-to-video on the features menu, choose your image and press Make video. The artificial intelligence gives the image movement and animates your photo within seconds.

Word to the wise: it would suit well with realistic pictures. I experimented with a few pixel art images, and the outcome, they failed to say the least.

However, when I applied a landscape photograph? Chef’s kiss. The flowers of the clouds were floating, the water dazzled– it was like magic.

Exploring the Features

BasedLabs has a variety of AI models such as photorealism, pixel art, anime, and general-purpose. All models have advantages hence there is nothing to fear of trying.

What I liked most? The community gallery. You are also able to look at other user projects, replicate their prompts and learn how to do it. It is free inspiration in its pure sense.

Also you can enlarge low-quality photos and change faces in pictures or videos – ideal with memes or creative work.

My Tips After Testing It Out

Start simple. Do not attempt a masterpiece in your first attempt. Call all to simple tests, understand the reaction of the AI, and play with it.

Use the prompt library. BasedLabs includes prompts written out that you may use in case you are stumped. They are of great use in learning how to make your own.

Watch your credits. Unutilised credits carry forward to the following month and that is not bad but do not spend all at once as I had almost done.

Join the Discord. It is a pro-social society. I would get answers to my questions there quicker than in other places.

Is It Worth Using?

For me? Yeah, absolutely. It will not replace professional designing software, however, in the situation of creating content fast, social media imagery, or simply trying out AI, it is a justified choice.

The default plan will allow you to get credits sufficient to go through everything and once you like it, the charged plans are affordable as at $19 or $49 month depending on the amount of creation.

The interface is minimal, the AI models are not bogus and one does not need a degree in computer science to learn to use it. That’s a win in my book.
