What is a podcast news ? Our explanation in plain English, with examples of what it sounds like, what’s popular, and how to listen.

what is a podcast

A podcast news is an audio program, like Talk Radio, but you subscribe to your smartphone and listen to it whenever you want.

A podcast is nothing but a series of spoken words, audio series/episodes, all focused on a particular topic to speak about, such as cycling or startups. Any one can subscribe to the show with an application on your phone and you can listen to all the episodes whenever you want on your headphones, in the car, or through speakers.

What is an example of a popular podcast?

podcast news: If you are new to this, it can be easy for you to see how radio stations turn their shows into podcasts. But remember, podcasts have far surpassed radio – you’ll find out more about that in a minute!

However, first of all, BBC Radio 4 put on a radio show called “More or Less: Behind the Statistics”, all about interesting economics and facts about numbers. That show airs at the same time every week and you have to connect to the radio to listen. But … to facilitate listening, the BBC publishes each episode as part of a “More or less podcast”. Each podcast episode is a recording of a “More or Less” radio episode, and they are all organized into a single podcast series.

So if you’re a fan of the radio show, you can subscribe to the More or Less podcast, and the episodes are delivered to you every week. That means you can listen to them at any time, instead of being on the radio at the same time every week.

Podcasts are much more than just a radio to use . The example above can give you a picture of what a podcast looks like, but it is not a complete answer to What a podcast is!

The vast majority of programs tend to have completely original content, not just to redistribute the radio. Many ditch the shackles of traditional radio formats to explore brilliant original approaches and fully specialized themes. E.g:They can be of any length, from a 1 minute news clip to a 3 hour in-depth interview.
They can be of any frequency, from daily to monthly
They can be of any format, from simple one-man shows to gigantic multi-person audio dramas.
They can cover ANY topic, many of which would never make it to the radio
No matter what interests you, you will find a program that suits the subjects you love and the time you have.

Are podcasts audio or video?

podcast news: Most of today’s podcasts are audio only, although there are video podcasts. The podcast has really grown out of a need for background content. This means something that can entertain, educate, or inspire you in the context of other boring or memorable activities.

For example, one of the most common ways people listen is in the car. Of course, you can’t watch videos there, so the audio content is great. Also, podcasts are great to listen to at the gym while mowing the lawn or on the way to work. Any wasted time can be an audio moment!
Of course, that means you need something to listen to, so you may need a pair of headphones to connect to your smartphone. If not, connect to your car via Bluetooth or start listening on the Echo or another smart speaker.
Do you need a recommendation for good headphones?

How do podcasts normally sound?

podcast news: When you listen to a podcast, you will find that many of them are quite familiar. You will listen to similar types of content over the years, from the radio to a television show. On the other hand, you will also listen to podcasts that are completely new and completely different from the norm, thanks to the freedom that podcast allows.

How do podcasts work?

podcast news: Most podcasts will have a specific theme. The host or hosts will talk about this topic in each episode. Sometimes it’s very specific, like triathlon racing or dog training, and other times it’s more general, like how to lead a happy life.

Next, each episode of that podcast will talk about something specific on that topic: nutritional tips for participating in a triathlon, or how to prevent your dog from fighting other dogs. Each episode is typically led by one or two regular presenters, who speak on the subject and will often attract outside guests to contribute or be interviewed.

Many podcasts are very simple, only a few friends talk about something that everyone is passionate about, such as movies, knitting or running a business. But some are really refined and super professional, including themed music, sound effects, professional editing, and more.

The most professional podcasts are great to listen to, but they take a lot more time and money to produce. Hobbyist shows, on the other hand, can have some rough edges, but it means they can pull it off every week and develop a loyal following.

Most people listen to both types. The most important factor in most podcasts is the host or hosts and you will be drawn to the topics and hosts you like, rather than the approach they take.

What’s the deal: Podcast vs. Podcast Episode?

podcast news: A podcast is a series of episodes and covers the show in its entirety. So a podcast episode is just a recording of the entire Podcast. It’s like television, really. A television show is made up of a complete series of episodes. So, think of “Friends” as the series and “The One They Married” as the episode. In this case, Friends is the equivalent of a podcast, and “Where they got married from” is the podcast episode.

podcast news: What is the difference between a podcast and an audio file?
If you just want to listen, you don’t need to know this. Unless you are thinking of starting your own podcast! But if you just want to listen, go straight to “How to listen to a podcast.”

The trickiest aspect of answering the question: what is a podcast? – and where a lot of people get confused, it’s the difference between a simple audio file and a full podcast.

The simplest explanation is that an audio file and a podcast episode are technically the same. If you have downloaded a Podcast episode from a Podcast site, you have already discovered that you are only downloading an audio file. The difference occurs when you add the option to subscribe to that series of audio files.

So if you are using a podcast hosting service to allow people to subscribe to your series of audio recordings, you have suddenly turned them from simple audio files into a fully functional podcast! There are still only audio files, but along with the subscription, you can also call them Podcasts.

Subscription seems automatic to you if you use a good podcast hosting company, but you may want to learn a little about how it works. It is powered by a technology called RSS (this is a bit difficult …) and it is just a computer language that allows your Podcasting software to communicate with a Podcasting website.

In essence, if you give your Podcasting software (such as Apple Podcasts) the web address of a Podcasting website, it will read the RSS feed, and you can download all the old episodes of that Podcast and download the new ones as they are released.

So when you use iTunes or any other good podcast listening app, it will keep track of all your subscriptions via the RSS feed of each podcast and automatically download new episodes as they become available. This is much easier than normal audio files, where you have to search the web and download them yourself.

The most important thing to remember is that an audio file by itself is nothing more than that, just an audio file.

But, if you upload that audio file to a website and allow it to subscribe via an RSS feed, it suddenly becomes a Podcast. Easy!
