How to Win More League Play Games in Black Ops Cold War

So I have gone into League Play, believing I would be the best player when I got completely beaten on my first ten games. It turns out that gun skill is not the only thing in ranked play in Black Ops Cold War. It is all about knowing when to spin, what weaponry is in fact effective and how to play the goal without headshot feeding.

And here is what I got to know upon getting through Competitor to Expert tier.

Get the Understanding of the Ranking System.

How to Win More League Play Games in Black Ops Cold War

League Play has a gem based system different as compared to traditional ranked modes. You are put into a Division Ladder and against 49 other random players that are at your skill level. Your goal? Compete with them during a 3-5 days season period.

It is of five levels, Competitor (bottom 50%), Advanced (top 16-20%), Expert (top 11-15%), Elite (top 3-10%), and Master (top 2%). You get ladder points by winning and particularly winning in streaks, the best players in your division earn gems that pull you up the ladder.

The catch? You do not have to be playing all 50 players in your ladder. You are simply compared with them. Consistency is more important than pop-off games every now and then.

Master the Three Core Modes

Hardpoint: It is All About Rotations.

The mode that is most easily mastered fast is hardpoint since the spawns are predictable. The hill turns after every 60 seconds and these are in predetermined points on each map.

The trick is as follows: spin a half-minute to half-minute before the hill you are on runs out. See the sequence of rotation of such maps as Moscow and Garrison – you are sure where to find the next hill.

And do not pile them up in the hill. It is held by one player and the others position themselves around it, which occupies approach angles. Feed on grenades with Trophy Systems and keep in mind, all one has to do is to be present in the hill and the points add up.

I was taught this lesson after observing my team crammed into small room and wiped out by a single nade.

Search and Destroy: Play Information.

S&D: It is a single-life game whereby attackers place bombs and defenders stop it. First to six rounds wins.

Know every possible route to the various bomb sites to be unpredictable. Corner checks are done with nades without exposing yourself. When you only have 10 seconds to go before you get to the site, then you do not want to force it, instead look to discourage enemies.

Defense In defense, inspect the bomb site after every 5-15 seconds on the lookout of the bomber. Have Trophy System in place and coverage on both angles that the enemy is able to defuse.

The biggest mistake? Rushing mindlessly. Move slowly, collect the information via the kill feed and organize the pushes with your team.

Controlling: Area Over Kills Custom Zone Priority.

Control is concerned with areas in sequence. It only requires a single player to capture (not Domination), yet the multiple players accelerate it.

First work on one zone with the whole team. Don’t split up. After you capture, you have added time, take advantage of it to prepare to take the next turn.

Disputed areas stagnate movement of capture, thus make obvious enemies within a short period of time. And in this regard there is a hint, that, when a zone has less than 10 seconds to run, and you are distant, pursue not. Prepare instead to the following aim.

Use the Right Weapons

The League Play prohibits more than a third of Cold War armament. All LMGs, tactical rifles and most of the equipment are limited to the rules of professionals.

What’s left? The laser accuracy of the assault type is dominated by the XM4 and FARA 83. In the case of SMGs, LC10 is the most balanced one, as it has high damage, good rate of fire, and good range. You choose the AK-74u because of close-range aggressive plays and great hip-fire.

Sniper rifles work in S&D only. Don’t bring them to Hardpoint.

Aim to build your loadouts in terms of recoil control. On the meta pool, attachments are more important than the type of weapon you have.

Improve Your Fundamentals

Aim and Centering

Majority of players who play competitively use 5-7 sensitivity on controller. Choose one and follow it at least two weeks it creates muscle memory.

Pre-aim in advance of enemy making them visible. Mark your crosshair on the usual holding positions at the head level. This time-to-kill reduction method makes this technique of centering a time-consuming process since you are making small changes to the screen rather than clicking.

Training recoil patterns with custom games with bots. Get to know how to burster-fire in medium-range AR combat and hip-fire on a charge with the SMG.

Map Knowledge Wins Games

Custom games Customize the layouts without stress in custom games. Identify power positions – locations which provide you with sightline advantages. Understand the location of enemies based on your location.

Look at your minimap after every five seconds. Follow team mates to guess where the enemy could be. Uncontrolled gunfire is appearing in the form of red dots – act on that information.

On position, as you have your weapon. SMGs (tight) ARs (range) and snipers (long lanes in S&D) are the way to go.

Communicate Clearly

Find out map callouts through watching pro broadcasts or being taught by channels such as Salvations Elite. Not paragraphs but call out enemy positions in brief, such as, two mid, one site.

Don’t complain. Share tactical info only. Check kills to ensure that team members do not waste time on body checks.

Practice With Purpose

Take 30% of your time in aim training (Download from free: AimLab (2017) on Steam) 40% on learning spawns and rotations and 30% decision-making in live games.

Play 2-3 games per day with a certain purpose. Stop on two losses to prevent tilting. Look at your deaths – positioning, gun skill, or decision-making? Fix one thing at a time.

In the case of solo queue, play roles that are not very reliant on teammates. Entry fragger or anchor positions allow you to decide how to impact with the help of coordination.

The Bottom Line

It all depends on three things: being aware of the rotations beforehand, having the proper usage of meta weapons, and having a smart playing of your life to win more matches in the League Play. Seniority in guns is useless, whereas location and game sense are important.

Start with Hardpoint to build mechanical skills, then move into S&D once you’ve got map knowledge down. And remember rank advancement rewards consistency over flashy plays. Play the objective, communicate, and focus on winning rounds, not chasing kills.

The grind from Competitor to Expert took me about three weeks of focused play. You’ll get there faster if you practice with intent and learn from every loss.
