I am telling you, I was being candid, I was downloading the Morbid Metal demo and I thought it would be easy sailing. Seven times later, I was dead and my whole gaming capacity was in question. The thing is, though, that as soon as you get what this game really wants you get it. Hard.
That is why, in the event that you are playing into this cyberpunk hack-and-slash roguelite and getting totally smashed, here is what I have found out the hard way.
Table of Contents
Stop Playing Like It’s a Single-Character Game
This was my biggest mistake. I continued to use Flux until complete sets of running since her katana was smooth. Wrong move.
It is a game based on the concept of character switching, not as a gimmick, but as your very strategy of fighting. Flux does speed and mid-range cuts and Ekku uses that axe to make heavy crowd management. You have to alternate between them during the combo.
The trick here is as follows: Find a way to dart in, and fire a few quick shots with Flux, then switch to Ekku with one that would ruin enemies as they come together. The change is smooth and it is on this where the battle really becomes brilliant.
Timing is not an option in the case of perfect dodge.
You have three chances to avoid – even during attack. That’s your lifeline.
However, with this, there is the key point: time your evasion just as an enemy attack is being made and you will enter a counter-attack window. It is then that you cause colossal damage. I used my initial few laps button-smashing in attack. Did my runs become much longer as soon as I began to watch enemy animations and avoid them.
Eat this rhythm: attack, watch, dodge, counter. Once you learn the chore-ography of it, it is like choreography.
Deal with the Devil Mechanics Are Worth the Risk.
At the beginning I was scared of these high-risk upgrades. Trade health protection, but obtain critical damage? Sounds like a death sentence.
However, after trying various formations I understood that these pacts are where you create actual power. The trick is getting knowledge of your playstyle. Being aggressive and dodgy, then go by glass cannon. Unless you have mastered the patterns of enemies, take up defensive buffs though they may be less glamorous.
These are not to be disregarded on the grounds that they appear unsafe, they are the way to what you turn to decent runs into dominant ones.
Between Fights: Exploring everything in between.
Semi procedurally generated levels would actually seem intimidating as they do not mean empty space. Along the side ways, there exists the healing stuff and potent perks that you will require in the subsequent portions.
My preliminary attempts have been completely unsuccessful. I would go flying in fights, and then why I was so weak at the end of it. Spend thirty seconds between the fights to patrol side areas and eliminate environmental objects. Resource is important in this game.
Your Only First Runs Are Practice, Not Wins.
This game is demanding. Rapid, cruel, and designed to tend to those who enjoy mastering systems.
You should also realize a steep learning curve in case you have not played an action game or a roguelike before. There is a strong hit and a strong kick of enemies and mistakes are immediately punished. But that is what makes improvement so gratifying too. Each death made me learn something – when to evade, when to change characters, which upgrades combos well.
Do not think you can beat the demo at the first attempt. Your initial training runs should be considered combat school and not real.
FAQs
Is the Morbid Metal demo still available?
Apparently, it is free and the developer confirmed that it is not away yet on Steam. Playing through it literally only takes about 20-30 minutes with an understanding of the game, however; this is significantly less than the amount of time you will spend dying and learning.
Early Preview: the perfect way to sample it without committing to it until the complete Early Access.
Do I need a high-end PC to run it?
The graphics are surprisingly vigorous regardless of the pictures. It is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and has elaborate rendering and therefore you require good hardware.
There were cases of stuttering when changing levels and high CPU and GPU usage. Performance can be nasty if you are on older hardware or on the Steam Deck, the game is only hitting 20 FPS using the lowest settings of a Steam Deck.
Summary: Morbid Metal is not a game that one can play while lying on the couch. It is one that is played by those who like to know the workings of systems, perfect timing and feel that they are all competent when everything comes together.
The demo is free to download so test it out to check whether the rhythm of combat suits you. Only, a word of advice Don’t judge it by your first three murders -all of us had been there.
