Check: Apple’s CarPlay Ultra rollout has been under my eye since May, and frankly speaking? My next question is the one you’re probably asking yourself: is this worth spending serious cash on a new car?
Here are the preliminary results of my research regarding demos, reviews, and actual user experiences.

What Makes CarPlay Ultra Different
The point is as follows–CarPlay Ultra is not regular CarPlay but a fresh paint. It occupies your complete dashboard. I mean the instrument cluster, center screen, and even the heads-up display if your car has one.
The very moment I watched it running on an Aston Martin DBX, I had my mouth open. Your music, navigation, and speed are all synchronized on all the screens. No longer staring at a phone-reflected center display and having a digital gauge cluster.
You can also change the climate without leaving CarPlay. That is the only thing that fixes one of my biggest dislikes about standard CarPlay.
CarPlay Ultra: How to (Actually) Use.
When you are getting an outfitting automobile matching (at the moment it is essentially only Aston Martin, but Hyundai, Kia, and Porsche are on the anvil), the following is required:
Requirement: You will need an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 18.5. The initial connection takes a few seconds while your phone downloads the package specific to the car. After that? It’s instant.
Customize Everything: Click the settings button and customize your instrument cluster. I would start with an empty theme, with speed, fuel, and navigation in the center. You can customize the colors, the wallpapers, and even how the information is presented.
Voice Commands Are the most important: Siri now runs your car. Commands like “set it to 72 degrees” or “turn up the bass” just work. Safety measures are way better than driving with touch screens.
Widget Strategy: Start a weather, calendar, and music widget on your home page. Swipe between pages with various driving situations- commute to work and road trips.
So… Is It Worth a New Car?
Alright, being straight about it: most likely not, in case you are content with what you have been riding in.
CarPlay Ultra is amazing; however, it is not so life-changing that you can use it as the sole reason to buy a new car. Are you already on track to buy a new car, and can CarPlay Ultra be available? By all means–it is a really healthier experience.
But the twist is that only Aston Martin produces it right now. And some larger brands, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volvo, have already backed it, fearing Apple is taking over their systems.
My take? Wait a year. Get to know the real performance of mainstream brands. Make sure the features you want are functional in real-life testing.
CarPlay Ultra may be your personal heaven if you’re locked into the Apple bandwagon and drive a ton. But for most people? Normal CarPlay does the job perfectly well.

Can I add CarPlay Ultra to my current car?
Nope. It requires irreversible factory hardware integration. You would have to buy a car that has it installed.
Which cars support CarPlay Ultra right now?
By November 2025, only Aston Martin (DBX, Vanquish, DB12, Vantage) supports it. Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, and Porsche have not committed to future support yet.
Does it work with Google Maps?
Not at launch. For now, you are left with Apple Maps or Waze. Apple is rolling out Google Maps support in due course, though it has no schedule.
Will my information be disclosed to the car manufacturer?
No. Apple keeps everything secret using iPhone security. The information remains confidential and isn’t shared with automakers.
